A superb figurative painting depicting the classic mythological scene of Venus at her toilette. The goddess, seated and draped, arranges her hair while gazing into the mirror held up by the little Cupid (Love). The setting is completed with antique elements (a vase/amphora decorated with flowers, a bench). Executed in a fluid style in grisaille/monochrome tones of earth and antique green, the composition evokes the delicacy of Pompeian frescoes and Neoclassical bas-reliefs.
