The painting captures in detail the work of the same name painted in 1869 by the Emilian painter Gaetano Chierici, an artist known for a prolific output of scenes from peasant life, captured in rustic interiors, interpreted through an intimate sentimental adherence and clear formal realism, depicting a small, happy, and always serene world, often joyful despite poverty, as it lacks any intention of social denunciation, instead representing the artist's happy conception of family. These paintings were so successful with the bourgeoisie of the time that they were reproduced multiple times by the artist's own workshop and by other painters.

Chierici almost always stages the interior of a humble peasant kitchen, full of objects described in minute detail, populated by children engaged in their daily activities, with adults watching them happily and amused: here we see the child who suddenly enters. The kitchen, wearing a grotesque mask on his face, frightens his little sister, who drops her food to run and cling to her mother's skirts, busy at the hearth, who scolds her son by brandishing the ladle. The work is presented in a carved and gilded wooden frame from the late 19th century.

The Di Mano in Mano work cooperative was founded in 1999 at the initiative of some members of the Villapizzone and Castellazzo communities, adopting their values and transposing them into the world of work. The rules of Di Mano in Mano are based on respect for the life of each worker and their personal and family needs. Caring for the environment, its territory, and the community that inhabits it, its history, art, and culture, its needs for work and training opportunities, and its social fragilities: these values are the solid foundations upon which we have built over the years a unique business model, faithful to the revolutionary idea of finding and putting into practice new ways to improve the quality of life. Equal pay proportional to the number of hours worked, the indivisibility of profits, which characterizes the working relationship of associates from the beginning, confirms Di Mano in Mano's intention to continue living in the spirit of sharing work, respecting the individual, and sobriety.
