In the painting, on a completely dark background, Jesus Christ crucified appears. He is presented with his eyes closed, his head crowned with thorns, and his feet nailed. The white loincloth serves to emphasize the nudity of the body. The dark background recalls the darkness that descended on the earth from the sixth hour to the ninth hour of Good Friday, but it is also a way to isolate the crucified Christ and transform him into a universal image. In the painting, there is an inscription placed on the upper end of Jesus' cross, called the titulus crucis, which reads as follows: INRI "IESUS NAZARAENUS REX IUDAERUM" "Jesus the Nazarene, the king of the Jews." Old painting signed at the bottom left. Inscription on the back of the painting to decipher. Theme: Christ on the Cross Technique: Oil painting on wood panel (oak).
