Oil on canvas, German-French post-Impressionist school. Dating from the beginning of the Second World War. Portrait of Mademoiselle Coudène in 1939. Dedication for her father, Lieutenant Coudène. Executed at Camp des Milles in Aix-en-Provence.
Oil on canvas on its original keyed stretcher. Sparse in color because of the wartime context. The oil tubes as well as the canvas were provided by Lieutenant Coudène, who had become friendly with Dietz Edzard. The painter Dietz Edzard was also in love with Mademoiselle Coudène. It is signed at the bottom right.
Dedication at the bottom left: To Lieutenant Coudène, Les Milles 1939. I acquired this work directly in Marseille from the grandson of Lieutenant Coudène. This portrait was kept by his mother all her life. See another work by Dietz Edzard for sale at auction in my shop.
This other work is a still life. It was also painted at Camp des Milles during the war. It was also kept by Madame Coudène. This work is in good condition. It shows no particular defects or prior restorations.
The canvas is well stretched on its original stretcher. This work is sold with its carved wooden frame, gilded with gold leaf. The dimensions of this painting are, with the frame, 60 cm / 51 cm.
