Painter of marines, peter van den velde 1634-c. 1707 became freemaster in the gilding of Saint-luc to Antwerp in 1654.
His work testifies stylistically to the influence of J. Peeters but differs from it by a weaker drawing and a more vigorous bill. Its preferred tones are brown and grey and its favorite themes are shipwrecks, stormed seas with shores adorned with fantastic rocks and seaports with far-away city views.
