Hello, I am selling this painting that is 60 cm high and 43.5 cm wide. It is an oil on wooden panel, 0.8 cm thick and weighing around 1 kg, dated August 1890 at the bottom left, and is unsigned.

Some research I conducted last year allowed me to discover that the artist who created it made a copy. (This is not a reproduction; the brush strokes are clearly visible here and there). There are several copies of varying quality; assuming that the original is superior to the others in terms of execution quality (though this can be debated in this case), the original is located in the Sainte-Marie Church in Ersa, Corsica (twenty-first photo); unfortunately, the webpage where I found this information is no longer accessible. I found another representation of this supposed model, located in the Abbey of La Grande Trappe in Orne, but this time it is a lithograph; one would have to travel there to see it in person.

I finally came across a photo of another copy on an Italian site, but I can no longer remember the site's address as I did not note it down. These three photos are available in my listing and have been placed last.

The connection between Joseph and Jesus is revealed. This painting I am offering you, with a rare sensitivity; the father's gaze, imbued with infinite tenderness, a smile on his face, evokes the protective love for his child destined for an exceptional fate. The hands, strong and well-proportioned, seem enormous next to this little being, who appears to be on the verge of being lifted into the air. The exceptional quality of execution of this painting stands out, undoubtedly the work of a highly talented artist, particularly in the modeling of faces and bodies, with remarkable finesse and precision. Despite various signs of wear here and there, in the form of more or less deep losses of pictorial material, a kind of "black grain" in places, possibly dirt, and superficial cracks in the wood, without gravity, the composition remains in a satisfactory state of preservation.

It seems that it has been largely cleaned, although some areas are still less clean than others. The panel, 0.8 cm thick, slightly concave or convex, remains very robust. Uncommonly, another composition, this time a seascape, dated August 1892, is present on the back; both an elegant source of curiosity and added value.

Please refer to the photos for its condition. This religious painting is already exceptional as it is, as it proves to be striking in the emotions it evokes; I leave it to you to imagine what it could look like after a worthy restoration. The photos were taken on a sunny afternoon, in a very well-lit room. The second one is the most faithful to the actual color rendering. However, please note that computer or mobile phone screens other than mine, and depending on their brightness and contrast, may alter the results I have achieved.

With this in mind, you can still consider this snapshot as a sufficiently representative source of reality, under similar observation conditions to those described earlier. The shipment will be done with care, unless you prefer a hand delivery, which is entirely possible if you make the trip.

Shipping to the United States is currently impossible due to new regulations regarding customs procedures, and this will remain until further notice. For it to be taken into account, it is imperative that if the box is damaged, sufficiently (it is up to you to determine this upon inspection) at any point, and/or opened, even partially, that you ask the delivery person to indicate reservations if it is a shipment with the Post, or that you refuse the package with the staff at the pickup point if it is a delivery to a pickup point, UNLESS, you must therefore ask them, you have the possibility to note reservations with the scan device of the shipping vouchers - then you can receive the package - before they scan the shipping voucher or perform any other operation confirming that you have indeed retrieved the package; in other words, ask to thoroughly check the condition of the box, not omitting any part, in these two scenarios before they act. Regarding delivery to a pickup point, if your refusal of reception is formulated, the package will be kept by the pickup point to be returned to the expertise service for verification aimed at reporting the responsibility of the deliverers and making the insurance effective (information gathered from their site) in case the object is damaged. Regarding the Post, if the delivery is made to your mailbox because the package dimensions allow it, without hand delivery therefore, and if the box is sufficiently damaged (the nuance is for you to determine), you must return it to the nearest post point without opening it, asking the counter staff to return the package to me (elements collected from their site), also in anticipation of a verification by the delivery service, UNLESS, as in the case of delivery to a pickup point, the postal office staff can indicate reservations.

In any case, do not hesitate to take photos of the damaged and/or opened box. You may think, for any reason, that the object inside the box remains in perfect condition, despite the damaged box, sufficiently (it is up to you to determine this upon inspection), and/or opened, even partially, and thus that you do not ask to make reservations, or that you accept the package if making reservations is not possible; but know that this amounts to playing Russian roulette since delivery services rely on the factor of error, which incidentally suits them well because, I repeat, the insurance is then no longer effective due to the sacred transfer of responsibility from the deliverer to the sender or recipient; thus less expense for them since they will not have to pay the amount of the insurance! And do not count on a "shaking" of the package to determine if the object is broken; unless it is glass or ceramic, the sound of breakage is imperceptible, or it could be a protective element within the package. Be sure to communicate all these elements in case a third party is retrieving the package on your behalf. If, on the other hand, the condition of the returned object is different from what it was at the time I sent it, but there is no evidence to determine that the deliverers are responsible, then there will be no refund, for the reason that even with excellent packaging, it can happen that not only the shocks during transport are extremely significant, but also that this happens without external damage, meaning on the box.

Things that may not have happened during the initial shipment, and which could perhaps have been avoided if the buyer had picked up the package and thus prevented a second transport, theoretically involving twice the risk for the object. If you have any questions or would like more photos, please feel free to let me know.
