On the back, there is a cartouche with an old attribution to Hubert Robert (1733-1808), a French painter who traveled to Italy and brought back varied and picturesque views populated with architectural ruins. In this work, the view of a hilly countryside frames a village with thatched cottages and a fountain in the center, amidst which stand classical architectural ruins: in the center, three columns of a temple, further to the left, the ruins of an amphitheater. Several popular figures walk among the structures.
