A lively maritime composition of sailing boats, bathed in the light of sunset. This work depicts a sea scene at low sun, with several sailing vessels moving across water in blue-green tones. The foreground features a dark boat with a lateen sail, animated by small figures, while the background reveals other sails standing out in a golden light.

The brushwork, fluid and expressive, captures reflections, clouds, and the movement of the water through impasto and light glazes. The painting bears a red painted signature at the lower left, which is difficult to read, as well as the date 1889 mentioned on the reverse.

The whole is set in an antique gilded frame in wood and stucco, richly molded and decorated with friezes of leaves, rows of beads, stylized foliage, and raised ornaments. The gilding has a warm patina, with browned tones in the recesses of the decoration that emphasize the depth of the molding.
