Ancient Italian School or Italianate-influenced School. Italian Landscape with Shepherds and a Fortified Tower. Dimensions (unframed): 23 × 29 cm - Frame: 42 × 48 cm. A Roman countryside landscape built in successive planes around a tree-lined path, animated by a peasant woman carrying a child, a shepherd playing the bagpipes, and a flock of sheep; in the background, a crenellated fortified tower and bluish mountains fading into the mist. The classical composition, the golden evening light, and the motif of the shepherd-musician are directly related to the tradition of the ideal Italian landscape inherited from the 17th century.

These comparisons remain stylistic and do not imply any attribution. Visible age-related craquelure across the surface, with no major losses according to the photographs; the finely crafted moulded wooden frame with gilt fillets harmoniously complements this timeless pastoral scene, in the most classical taste of the Italianate landscape.
