Old Oil Painting on Canvas by Basil Poustochkine (1893–1973)

  
Magnificent authentic antique painting, an oil on canvas depicting a post-impressionist autumn landscape, signed lower left by the listed artist Basil Poustochkine. The painting shows a ploughed field in terracotta and rosy tones, dominated by a grove of evergreen trees beneath an evening sky. The technique is characterized by superb brush impasto, bringing a great deal of texture and depth to the light. After fighting the Bolsheviks, he settled permanently in France. A discreet and solitary artist, he spent his life painting nature and the edges of forests in the Paris region. His works are regularly featured in auctions in France and internationally. Origin / Location: A period inscription on the back of the frame reads “Chaten,” most likely placing this view in Châtenay-Malabry (Île-de-France), near the Verrières forest. Inscriptions on the back: Original exhibition label bearing the handwritten mention “No. 1 View of the Forest.” Condition & Framing: The canvas is in excellent condition on its original stretcher. It is sold with its period gilded molded wooden frame and white mat.
