Old oil painting on panel, French Neoclassical painting, 19th century
Antique French oil painting on panel from the 19th century. Antique French painting from the first half of the 19th century. Oil on oak panel of excellent pictorial quality depicting a Neoclassical subject titled Amintas (Aminta), after the famous work by Torquato Tasso. A painting of good size, characterized by warm and clearly defined colors. Aminta, a young shepherd, falls in love, unrequited, with the beautiful mortal nymph Silvia. Even after saving her from the clutches of a satyr, the young woman abandons him without even saying goodbye. Aminta, desperate after finding a bloodstained veil belonging to the nymph, tries to take his own life. After various vicissitudes, the story ends with the triumph of love between the two. The work has undergone a light conservative restoration over time. The panel shows small losses of paint (see photo), is structurally sound, solid, and has a beautiful patina. Overall, the painting is in good condition. H 108 x W 96 x D 2 cm.
