This painting depicts the face of Jesus crowned with thorns, evoking the theme of Veronica’s Veil.

Attribution and style: Paintings of this type are often attributed to the Emilian school or to the circle of Guido Reni. Several variations were created by different artists between the 17th and 18th centuries.

This work dates from the Italian school of the 18th century.

Subject: It represents Christ suffering during the Passion, identified by the crown of thorns and, in some versions, by the white cloth in the background, which recalls Veronica’s miraculous veil.
