The painting derives from the work of Rubens (1577 -1640) preserved at the Prado Museum in Madrid, reproduced as a counterpart in the engraving by Paulus Pontius (1603 -1658), which also appears in this version. At the center of the scene, vertically, is the figure of Mary, whose face is inspired by that of Isabel Brandt, the first wife of the Flemish painter, who passed away in 1626 at the age of 35. The Virgin holds the Child Jesus in her arms, who looks tenderly yet seriously into her eyes, while a small hand rests on his mother's bare breast, from which he has just been fed; behind, standing, Saint Anne wraps her daughter and grandson in a tender and protective embrace, smiling with complacency: On the left side, a bit apart and in the darkness, Joseph observes, thoughtful and worried: he is the only human figure that does not blend into the light emanating from the Child's face, radiating onto Mary's face and, by reflection, also onto Saint Anne's. Compared to the master's work, the composition of the figures is respected, but several details vary, notably in the clothing of Saint Anne, Mary, and in the drapery surrounding the Child's hips, which reinforces the hypothesis that this is the work of a follower of the Flemish master. The painting, restored and retouched, is in good condition, with only a scuff in the paint at the top center.

The Di Mano in Mano work cooperative was founded in 1999 at the initiative of a few members of the Villapizzone and Castellazzo communities, adopting their values and transposing them into the world of work. The rules of Di Mano in Mano are based on respect for the life of each worker and their personal and family needs.

Caring for the environment, their territory, and the community that inhabits it, its history, art, and culture, its needs for work and training opportunities, and its social fragilities: these values are the solid foundations on which we have built over the years a unique business model, faithful to this revolutionary idea of finding and putting into practice new ways to improve the quality of life. Equal pay proportional to the number of hours worked, the indivisibility of profits, which characterizes the working relationship of associates from the outset, confirms Di Mano in Mano's intention to continue to live in the spirit of sharing work, respecting the individual, and sobriety.
