Sumptuous rose throw in a basket braided by emile godchaux signed at the bottom right and presented in a very pretty gilded frame of the 19th century. Oil on canvas on panel. Born in 1860 and possibly from the family of the sculptor roger godchaux. He is often mistaken for alfred godchaux, a Lyon painter who at the same time painted on similar themes and in a fairly close invoice. His favorite themes were the harbours, the cliffs of the Normandy coast, the Atlantic beaches animated by fishermen and boats, the mountainous landscapes taken on the motif, in the Pyrenees and in Savoy, Venice. Its skies are tumultuous, its characters in costumes of fishermen or peasants end of century. The material is beautiful, generous and dense, the drawing robust in its schematicism. The signature comes in two very different forms, one classic, with a wide and very readable layout, the other finely dug into the dough by means of a tip (some canvases bear the double signature). A certain mystery still hangs over this prolific painter for whom research is underway. Dimensions 87 x 62 out of frame. For international delivery contact me beforehand.
